Things were looking good. The Charlotte Hornets and their fans were riding high. After a season full of losses and embarrassments, the team had strung together five straight wins. Kelly Oubre Jr., who was having a career year, was finally back from injury. The team was as close to healthy as it had been in a while, and PJ Washington, their lone starter out with injury, would be returning shortly.

Then LaMelo Ball’s right ankle was fractured.

A season that was already going to result in an earlier finish than the previous two suddenly became even more difficult to enjoy. The Hornets had shown a flash of what was possible when their roster was near its healthiest. This most recent losing streak hurts more because the fanbase got an opportunity to view what could have been.

Regardless, despite some disappointment at the end of the season, the fact that fans know they are rooting for a team going in the right direction. Even in the losses, there is a silhouette of hope that should form a blanket of comfort for Hornets fans.
