Rex Chapman

The Hornets’ first-ever draft pick, Chapman was a legend at the University of Kentucky. The 6’4 combo guard. The eighth overall draft pick in 1988, Chapman came into the league as a scorer. He averaged 16.9 points per game his rookie year, starting 44 of his 75 games played. His rookie year was good enough to earn All-Rookie second team. He was also a participant in the 1990 and 1991 Slam Dunk competitions.

He was traded midway through his fourth season with the Hornets. If he had continued with the type of production for longer, he’d be higher on the list. Still, the historic draft pick gave the Hornets a solid start to its franchise.
