Next season, Terry Rozier will be entering the second year of a four-year $96 million contract extension. For what it’s worth, we know that Rozier and LaMelo ball can co-exist on the court despite some overlap in their skillset.

The problem is Rozier is not a great defender, and at 29 years old, he doesn’t fit the Hornets’ timeline. Interestingly, the offensive-minded guard found his name floated in multiple trade rumors around the February 9 trade deadline, which means the same could happen again during the summer.

If the Hornets are serious about building around LaMelo Ball, then moving on from Rozier could help them achieve that goal. After all, the veteran guard will likely command a decent return on the trade market, and getting his salary off the books will provide some future cap flexibility for Mitch Kupchak and the Charlotte Hornets front office.

In his four seasons with the team, Rozier is averaging 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 48.7% from two-point range and 37.3% from deep. With those sorts of numbers, there should be multiple teams who believe Rozier can help shore up their guard rotation and help take them to the next level.
