As the Charlotte Hornets prepare to embark on the upcoming 2023-24 season, they are looking to be more competitive and more successful this time around. A large part of that is managing salaries and putting together a roster full of complementary players.

A proper mix is required in order be a competitive team and sometimes in the process of finding that combination there are some players who end up being overpaid along the way. With that said the Hornets have one player who is overpaid and two who are underpaid in 2023-24.

Underpaid: LaMelo Ball $10.9 million

The classification of LaMelo Ball as underpaid comes with plenty of asterisks. Ball is mostly here on a technicality as he will be on the final year of his four-year standard rookie scale contract this season. At just $10.9 million, being able to have a player as talented as Ball on that low of a salary is a big-time steal for the Hornets.

Now it must be said that Ball’s five-year contract extension worth just under $206 million kicks in next year and his salary will more than triple beginning in the 2024-25 season. So for now, Ball is considered an underpaid player for the Hornets that will become correctly compensated next season.
