Jarrett Allen is a clear upgrade over what the Hornets currently have

This is simply an indisputable fact. Jarrett Allen is better than Mark Williams and Nick Richards at the current moment in time. Do not let fandom cloud judgment here. Currently, Allen is the better option. This could change down the line, and it very well could. But this is speaking about what is known right now about the players mentioned. For the Hornets to escape the basement of the Eastern Conference, they need quality players, and this is a description that applies to Allen.

It is about the Hornets finding a way to raise the talent floor of the team with a known commodity. Allen has already done that for Cleveland. And it could happen again should he end up in Charlotte. This would take pressure off the core players on the roster to do everything. It would also afford Williams and Richards time to develop into more rounded-players. This would be an angle focused on the long term, hoping their younger options turn into reliable rotation players. There have been flashes and signs that it could happen, but this outcome is far from guaranteed.
