Which members of the Charlotte Hornets franchise have received MVP votes going back to when the organization was founded back in 1988?
Al Jefferson – 2014
This goes back to the time when the Hornets were known as the Bobcats from 2004-14. Al Jefferson is the most recent player in the history of the Hornets/Bobcats to receive any sort of MVP vote consideration.
Jefferson finished the 2013-14 season averaging 21.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 blocks while making just under 51% of his field goal attempts (50.9) on 18.8 attempts per game. Even with an impressive season, Jefferson was not remotely close to being a Top MVP candidate. Jefferson would finish in eighth place with 34 points and zero first-place votes. The 2013-14 MVP, Kevin Durant, would come away with 1,232 points and 119 out of a possible 125 first-place votes.
This Top-10 MVP finish in his first season in Charlotte was the final year which saw him average more than 20 points and nine rebounds per game. Jefferson would play one more season in Charlotte as part of the rebranded Hornets before playing his final two NBA seasons with the Pacers from 2016-18.
