When it comes to who the best new weapon for the Charlotte Hornets is, it seems pretty obvious who that should be. Bleacher Reports’s Zach Buckley appears to agree with who most would expect when it comes to Charlotte’s entry in the recently published Every NBA Team’s Best New Weapon for 2023-24 Season. Buckley chose the second overall selection in the 2023 NBA Draft, Brandon Miller.

"“If Brandon Miller isn’t the best new baller in Buzz City, then one of two things happened. Either this summer’s No. 2 pick heard the “bust” label thrown around early and often, or Nick Smith Jr. erased all memories of his disappointing collegiate campaign and reminded folks why he was once regarded as one of the top prospects in his class. Otherwise, Miller should be the best thing to happen to the Charlotte hoops scene since LaMelo Ball’s arrival. Miller’s ceiling might be a little unsettled with questions surrounding his creation and finishing, but everything clicks, he could be the league’s next impact big wing.”"

This is pretty much expected. There is a certain level of expectations being placed upon Miller, and deservedly so. The Hornets were expected to select Scoot Henderson second overall but opted to go with Miller over the eventual Portland Trail Blazer.

Fellow rookie Nick Smith Jr. is also mentioned as a possibility considering how he was viewed not too long ago. Perhaps Smith can get back on the right track and give Miller a run for his money to take home the honor of the best new weapon in Charlotte.

But for now, the assumption is that Miller will be the best new addition for Charlotte. If the Hornets hit on another Top-5 pick within five years, it could seriously alter the trajectory of the franchise. Having another young productive player in the starting five next to LaMelo Ball should result in the Hornets being a competitive organization sooner rather than later. There is a reason why the term wingman” was floated around as the word to describe the Hornets’ offseason.
