Five players signed past their prime in the second Hornets era
Jason Maxiell 2014
While Jason Maxiell never had the level of hype around him as a few of the other names appearing in this list, he was still an incredibly solid contributor for the Pistons as the Going to Work era came to a close in Detroit. Primarily coming off the bench, Maxiell averaged 6.1 points on 50.3% shooting from the field while grabbing 4.4 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per game during his time in Detroit.
The former Piston spent one season in Orlando, averaging 3.2 points on 44.8% from the field and 2.5 rebounds in 14.4 minutes across 34 games. Even though this was a down year for Maxiell, the hope was that he could recapture his form in a Pistons uniform after leaving Orlando and coming to Charlotte.
Things were not much better for Maxiell with the Hornets. Scoring continued to be down, averaging 3.3 points in his age-31 season. Rebounds saw a slight uptick as he finished with 3.3 per game. Playing time was identical at 14.4 minutes, but Maxiell was able to appear in 27 more games (61) for the Hornets.
This would be Maxiell’s final year in the NBA, a recurring theme with most of the players on this list as it was their last or second-to-last year playing in the league.
