The Boston Celtics have been searching for some legitimate bench depth for the past two seasons. This summer, Brad Stevens has added Oshae Brissett to stem some wing issues off the Celtics bench. However, Oubre Jr. would fit their requirements much better.

In Boston, Oubre Jr. would be tasked will playing back-up to Jayson Tatum and/or Jaylen Brown. There would be plenty of open shots for Oubre Jr. to take advantage of, while Joe Mazzulla’s high-paced offense could give the veteran wing an opportunity to showcase his full skillset.

The Celtics are also a contending team. Oubre Jr. would be joining a franchise that recently added a third star in Kristaps Porzingis. He would be joining a team that continually enjoys deep postseason runs and feels like they’re knocking on the door of a potential dynasty.

Yes, Boston is strapped for cap space and would certainly be looking to secure Oubre Jr. on a veteran minimum deal. But just like Miami and Golden State, the Celtics can offer the former Hornets wing a role on a contending team. A role that better suits his skillset would allow him to flourish while improving his offensive efficiency.

If Oubre Jr. can end up on any of the three teams mentioned in this article, he’s taking a big step toward rebuilding his value around the NBA and becoming an NBA champion. The Hornets couldn’t offer Oubre Jr. the success he could potentially enjoy in the coming season, and while a bigger role would have been available, Oubre Jr. wasn’t a great fit with how the Hornets are restructuring their roster.
