So many things would need to fall just right for the Charlotte Hornets ever to have a chance at landing Scottie Barnes. However, this article consists of a dream, so here we are. The Toronto Raptors seem hellbent on walking a tightrope between contending and rebuilding. Their front office seems to be torn on the best course of direction, something Hornets fans are all too familiar with.

If Barnes becomes disillusioned with the Raptors’ inability to choose a path and potentially build a team around him, he could begin looking for a new home. Barnes’ athleticism, ball-handling, and physicality would see him elevate the Hornets roster to new heights. With LaMelo Ball and Miller already on the roster, Barnes would be giving up some usage and accepting a tertiary role within the rotation, but that could be exactly what he needs to see his game flourish.

Barnes’ athleticism and size would also see him improve the Hornets’ defense, both on the perimeter and in the lanes. However, Charlotte would certainly need Barnes to improve his perimeter scoring, as his career 29% 3-point shooting wouldn’t be conducive to a potential five-out offense that’s predicated on penetration and kickouts.

Modern-day basketball requires fours to shoot from deep. Barnes may have all the physical traits to dominate, but that shouldn’t be a reason for him not expanding his range. Playing with LaMelo would necessitate a reliable catch-and-shoot jumper on top of his already high-level rip-through offense.
