There is a ton of hype surrounding the 2023 NBA Draft Class and the impact they could make this season. Obviously, San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama and Portland’s Scoot Henderson have garnered most of the attention, and for good reason. Both players are projected to be superstar talents, possibly reaching that level as soon as this year. This has led to one Charlotte Hornets player being overlooked, at least from a positive angle.

Hornets rookie Brandon Miller has been a relatively easy target for critics, as his selection by Charlotte was recently named as a driving factor in the team receiving a low grade for their offseason. But it was Sir Charles in Charge’s Brandon Vella noting that his star-level talent has been overlooked as the start of the 2023-24 season rapidly approaches.

"“Charlotte Hornets rookie Brandon Miller, who was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, hasn’t clocked a single minute in the pros yet and is already being neglected. Because he was in the same draft as Victor Wembanyama, he was already somewhat overlooked. In addition to that, the public seems to be more excited about Scoot Henderson than Miller despite where they were selected in the draft.”"

Honestly, the fact that most expected Charlotte to take Henderson and not Miller with the second-overall pick is clearly a factor here. This has resulted in a near-constant criticism of Charlotte’s draft process and non-stop complaints about the choice of Miller over Henderson.

Miller is clearly a talented player who should be able to contribute right out of the gate. While it is possible he may not end up becoming a superstar-level talent like most expect Wembanyama and Henderson to be, the future success of the Hornets is not dependent on that, unlike the situations in San Antonio and Portland. If Miller can be a solid above-average starter alongside LaMelo Ball, it should lead to a rather quick turnaround in Charlotte.
