Charlotte Hornets to take on Brooklyn Nets as home stand ends
The Charlotte Hornets are looking to end their early season home stand on a high note. Charlotte will take on the visiting Brooklyn Nets in their third and final game at Spectrum Center before heading out on the road for the next week. The two teams come into Monday night’s matchup for their first of three matchups. The two teams have a combined record of 1-3, the only win being Charlotte’s in their first game of the year.
It was a rough go of things last year for the Hornets when they took on the Nets, losing all four contests. Three of the four losses came against a Nets lineup with Kevin Durant, and two were with both Durant and Kyrie Irving. Luckily, the Hornets will not be facing either player this time around, as both now reside in the Western Conference.
Charlotte was outscored by nearly 10 points on average in their four matchups (111.3-100.5). The Hornets actually came close in their first two meetings with the Nets, losing by just four and six points. The third and fourth matchups were not particularly close, as Charlotte lost by 17 and 16 points respectively.
The Hornets were a team that consistently struggled from three-point range last season, and this was a theme that carried over into their season series with the Nets. Brooklyn averaged 1.5 more made threes per game than Charlotte in their four matchups last season on a slightly higher conversion rate (34%-31.4%). The Hornets did manage to make double-digit threes in three games against Brooklyn last year, but only one of those contests saw Charlotte finish with more makes than the Nets.
Charlotte should have a better go of it this season when they take on the Nets. The trajectory of both teams has gone in opposite directions since the beginning of last year, and that could be just enough for the Hornets to come out on top this time around.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. at Spectrum Center.
