The Charlotte Hornets would love to compete soon. However, they still seem to be rebuilding. Charlotte has questions to answer – such as whether or not to build around LaMelo Ball. Having a breakout player on the roster would help matters, and it appears that a certain player could take a big step forward during the 2025-26 season. David Thorpe believes Drew Peterson could make an impact.
“They have a 6’8” or so guard named Drew Peterson on a two-way,” Thorpe said, via Yahoo! Sports. “He was in Boston the last two years. I know Drew, I think he’s exactly what we’re talking about… He’s a baller. And I spoke to a team this week who is desperate to get him, but he’s in Charlotte. They can’t get him right now… I think he’s one of the best, if not the best two-way player out there.”
Is Drew Peterson a future star?
Being one of the best two-way players in the league is an impressive feat. Peterson, 25, has appeared in a total of 28 NBA games. He has averaged 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds per outing in his contests in the league. Peterson is listed at 6’9” and has shot 44.7 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc.
He seems to offer an element of versatility. His size suggests he can play in the paint, but Peterson could also run the wing with his ability to shoot the basketball. Peterson is also developing his handle and is a capable rebounder. His versatility is perhaps his greatest asset, and it is not surprising to hear that at least one other team is interested in him.
For Charlotte, Peterson is a tremendous fit. He could play a role with the team for years to come as they look to add players around their stars. If Peterson lives up to his potential, he could earn a standard NBA deal later in the season. The Hornets feature a number of young players with intriguing ceilings, but they will give Peterson an opportunity.
Peterson can prove that he deserves more playing time by making an impact early in the 2025-26 campaign. It remains to be seen if he can establish himself as a true star in the NBA. At the very least, it seems as if Peterson will be able to serve as a valuable role player. As Charlotte looks to build depth on its roster, finding players like Peterson will be of the utmost importance.
