Cody Martin

Cody Martin’s name was in trade rumors because he is a useful veteran role player who excels on the defensive end. He has been solid for the Hornets, but he just may not fit their timeline. Surely, if a team had offered a first-round pick, or something close, Martin could’ve been had.

28 years old, Martin is under contract for next season at $8.1 million and has a non-guaranteed contract of $8.7 million for the 2025-26 season. That’s a great deal, that could become increasingly valuable to teams around the league.

Martin could be an impactful role player and three and d player for a contender. His bargain deal should make him highly sought after on the trade market, especially as the new CBA makes team-building harder and harder.

Cody has been a good soldier for the Hornets, and there’s no guarantee that his time is coming to an end, but the best way he can help them going forward may be in a trade to acquire more assets.

He’s received praise from his teammates recently for leading the push on the defensive end and helping with the mini resurgence since the trade deadline. The more Martin plays well, the more he may be raising his trade value and growing his appeal to other NBA teams.
