Wish #2: Act with purpose

Whatever the exact plan is, it better be clear. I may not agree with it, but I need to see clear execution bound by logic. The Hornets need to be on the phone with every team in the league, seeing if they are interested in almost every player on the roster.

The front office needs to build up the market for their players as much as possible, drive interest and drive up the prices, and make sure no stone is left unturned. Get creative and think outside the box. This is a time to take some chances, just make sure they are for the right reasons.

Upside swings are smart risks. Young players who showed promise at one time are the kind of players to target. Buy low on players who may just need more minutes and opportunity, or even a change of scenery.

There are players across the league right now who are on the verge of a breakout with a new team. It’s not the norm, but it’s going to happen. The more of these swings the Hornets take, the more likely they are to hit on one (or more).

The team should do whatever it takes to get the young players they like and draft picks. If it means trading away good players and taking on players with less-than-desirable contracts, so be it. It may seem counterintuitive, but it’s the best way to compile assets and give the team more bites at the apple.

Above all, go into the day with a clear plan and make it happen. Don’t be afraid to make bold deals if they are the right ones, and don’t make moves just for the sake of making moves if they aren’t clearly what’s best for the team. These are going to be a long and stressful few hours, we need to hope these decision-makers know what the hell they are doing.
