Draymond Green disrespects Hornets when discussing potential Warriors trade

Well that was harsh...

For the past couple of seasons, the Charlotte Hornets have been one of the worst teams in the league. Whether it be because of injuries of youth, they just haven’t been able to escape the basement of the Eastern Conference.

While Charlotte has been at the bottom, plenty of other teams have been at the top of their games, including the Golden State Warriors, who capped off their dynasty with a championship run in 2022.

Led by Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green at the time, the Warriors were dominant, but they aren’t the same team anymore. Thompson has joined the Dallas Mavericks, and trade rumors constantly surround the squad.

Draymond Green threw shot at Hornets when discussing Warriors trade rumors

Green has been thrown into his fair share of trade rumors in recent years, and there were even rumblings that he could potentially leave the Warriors in free agency, but he got an extension.

During a recent appearance on the Club 520 podcast, Green spoke about the trade rumors, even speculating about what teams he could potentially be dealt to. When talking about the teams, Green disrespected the Hornets.

"I pray to God if they ever feel the need to get rid of me, at least send me somewhere… If they’re going to send me to any non-winning organization, then send me to Detroit. That’s the crib… If they’re going to send me to any non-winning organization, I’d much rather it be Detroit than Charlotte."

Now, it makes sense that Green would want to go to the Pistons if he were to get traded to a bad team. He is from Saginaw, Michigan, meaning he would get the chance to play for his hometown team.

But Green didn’t have to throw a shot at Charlotte in there.

Clearly, Green wants to spend the rest of his career with the Warriors. He would rather stay there than play for Detroit. But going the extra mile to make fun of the Hornets during his answer was unnecessary (and a little bit funny to anyone who’s not a Hornets fan).

For what it’s worth, the Hornets have been a better team than the Pistons in recent years (even if the bar is on the floor), so it seems as though the only reason Green would rather go there is because he’s from the area.

All that being said, it’s up to Charlotte to dig themselves out of the gutter. Then, even though this comment means nothing in the grand scheme of things, they can prove that they’re more than the bottom-feeding team they’ve been in recent years.
