76ers scoop up two-time Hornets veteran after two hilarious stints in Charlotte

Someone in Charlotte must really like Reggie Jackson (but apparently not THAT much).

The Charlotte Hornets waived Reggie Jackson after trading for him this summer in a deal to help the Denver Nuggets clean up their books, and now, the veteran point guard will be joining the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 76ers completely revamped their roster this summer. They signed Paul George, re-signed Kelly Oubre, let Tobias Harris Walk, and added guys like Caleb Martin, Eric Gordon, and Andre Drummond, too. Jackson is just the latest on that list.

And while his time in Charlotte was virtually non-existent, it was still a hilarious, odd stint, mainly because it wasn’t the first time Jackson was a part of the Hornets organization, even if it was for just a brief time.

Reggie Jackson will sign with 76ers after being traded to and waived by Hornets

This time around, he was dealt by the Nuggets in a massive six-team trade (the first in NBA history) so that Denver could clear up some cap space. Charlotte also nabbed Josh Green in the deal.

But just one year prior, in 2023, the Hornets made another deal for Jackson. And in a similar set of circumstances, he never even played in a game before getting waived.

The LA Clippers traded Jackson to the Hornets in a deal that saw them land Mason Plumlee. Shortly after that, Jackson signed on with the Nuggets and helped them win their first championship in franchise history.

Yet when it came down to it, the Nuggets wanted to save some money, so they had Jackson go through the same exact process that he went through before landing with the Nuggets last year.

Two short-lived, hilarious, effectively non-existent stints in Charlotte later, Jackson is now a 76er, and he probably has a pretty solid relationship with the Hornets front office.

But what’s even funnier about the situation is that Jackson came and went from the Hornets under two different sets of leadership.

When the Clippers traded him to Charlotte, Mitch Kupchak was in charge. But this time around, it was Jeff Peterson. Maybe there’s someone in the front office who is just a big fan of Jackson as a person.

Regardless, the whole situation has been very funny to watch unfold, especially consider Russell Westbrook and the Utah Jazz have done the same thing two years running as well, and he’s actually going to join the Nuggets to replace Jackson.
