It's been a trying year in Charlotte, who hasn't been able to keep its full roster on the court around budding rookie Brandon Miller.
The Hornets are tied for the third worst record in the NBA this season at 20-60, with the San Antonio Spurs, which is impactful for the team's draft positioning as the team looks to add another top pick to its arsenal of young talent.
The difference between have the third and fourth worst record is massive, as the bottom three records get a 14% chance of landing the first pick while the fourth worst has a 12.5% chance. Currently, FanDuel Sportsbook has listed the Hornets at +550 to receive the top choice, a 15.4% chance of getting the top pick.
That may not be the best wager in the long run, but its notable that the team is tied for the lowest odds and with shorter than the Spurs, implying that Charlotte is likely to finish inside the bottom three when the season ends this weekend.
Charlotte would love to land the top pick to add to its plethora of young talent that includes Miller and LaMelo Ball and will have a new coach in charge of this roster with Steve Clifford stepping down as head coach.
The Hornets have a lot of moving pieces around the organization, including the roster, and landing a top draft pick would be a great start to wash away a lost season.
