The next 3 Hornets to make the all-star game
By Ben Handler
Brandon Miller
After watching Miller for the past month, this seems like a matter of when, not if for Miller and making the all-star game. He participated in the Panini Rising Stars event on Saturday in what should be his first of many all-star weekend appearances.
If Miller can keep up his torrid recent pace, he could be in the all-star conversation as soon as next year. A big question for Miller will be whether or not he can keep up this production when Ball is back in the lineup.
Miller’s ascension has largely lined up with LaMelo’s absence, but nevertheless, what he’s doing can’t be ignored. He started surging late in January, and so far in the month of February he’s averaging 23.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, and doing it with 49/43/89 shooting splits.
That’s crazy production with equally good efficiency. To be putting up those kinds of numbers as a rookie is pretty impressive, especially on a team that has been lacking a lot of playmaking and creation. Not to mention, Miller has been locked in on defense and making big plays on that end.
Assuming Brandon can continue his growth and development, and take another step next season, he’ll be in all-star talks very soon. We saw Paolo Banchero make it this year, in his second season, and of course, LaMelo was in just his second season when he made his lone appearance.
So there is plenty of precedent for young stars to make the game. Much like Ball, Miller just needs his production to start impact winning and he’ll hear his name called.
