Hornets' Second January Goal: Begin the cleaning house process
Speaking of things that are difficult to justify, the continued employment of head coach Steve Clifford as well as president of basketball operations and general manager Mitch Kupchak.
Kupchak has been with the Hornets since 2018, with the organization being very mediocre during that time. At some point, Kupchak is going to be held accountable for the miscues, and there is no time like the present.
As far as Clifford is concerned, his return to the organization was one made out of desperation and convenience after the agreement with Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson fell through. Clifford's return to Charlotte has seen the team revert back to an uncompetitive state, although some of that can be blamed on having some of the worst injury luck in the entire league.
While it is hard to put Clifford or Kupchak at fault for the volume of injuries this team has sustained, but it may best for all involved to put this coaching and front office pairing in the rearview mirror. It is about providing the organization with a fresh start for their short and long-term future and putting this disappointing era behind them once and for all.
