Buzz City Beat is Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the best articles from around the internet surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.

After dropping their fourth straight game with a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, the Charlotte Hornets will take on the Atlanta Hawks for their final game of the regular season. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at the team picking up Rich Cho’s option, regular season awards for the Hornets and Treveon Graham‘s career game.

Charlotte Picks Up Rich Cho’s Option (ESPN.com)

"The Charlotte Hornets have picked up the option for next season on general manager Rich Cho’s contract, according to league sources. Sources told ESPN.com that the Hornets recently activated the 2017-18 in Cho’s existing deal."

The key word here is “option.” This was not an extension. Cho has very little room for error going forward. With the down season the team just had, this upcoming year will be a do or die year for Rich and the Hornets.

The GM will need to bring in some key players to help improve the team and if they fail to make the playoffs once again, it’s safe to say that his time as Charlotte’s General Manager will be done. Even though he has helped turn the team around a bit and brought in Nicolas Batum and signed Kemba Walker to a team-friendly contract, there have been too many mistakes like Miles Plumlee, Ramon Sessions and even Lance Stephenson.

Hornets Regular Season Awards (BleacherReport.com)

"It’s always a good sign when one breakout year follows another. Kemba Walker bested his career marks in scoring, three-point accuracy, total treys made, usage rate and player efficiency rating—all of which he set last season. Charlotte’s massive midseason swoon had nothing to do with him, and his first All-Star nod looks like it won’t be his last."

Of course, Kemba was named the team’s MVP. Cody Zeller was named the Defensive Player of the Year over Michael Kidd-Gilchrist while Walker was also named the Biggest Surprise. Charlotte got the “Maximum Security Award” for taking the care of the ball as they averaged the lowest turnovers this season.

Handing out a few more awards, Frank Kaminsky would win the Sixth Man Award for the Hornets and Kemba would win the Most Improved Award for his continued growth and development. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like any of Charlotte’s players will win an NBA award this season. Even with the outstanding season that Walker had, it is unlikely that he makes an All-NBA team considering the other great guards in the league.

Treveon Graham Has Career Game (RotoWorld.com)

"Treveon Graham scored a career-high 12 points vs. the Bucks on Monday with two steals and two triples in 16 minutes."

With the season coming to a close, it gives Steve Clifford a chance to give players who don’t usually get a lot of minutes a longer look in games. Graham took advantage of the extra playing time. Treveon is a solid defender and has actually developed his three-point shot this season. He may have already secured a roster spot with the team for next season.
