The Charlotte Hornets are reportedly targeting Chad Iske to be an assistant coach on Jemaes Borrego’s staff.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Charlotte Hornets are “angling to bring the Wizards’ Chad Iske to Charlotte to move onto James Borrego’s bench.” Iske has been an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards since 2016. He would be the fourth assistant added to Borrego’s coaching staff.

Chad has been an assistant in the NBA since the 2007-08 season. He started out his coaching career with the Denver Nuggets before moving to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014. He then joined the Sacramento Kings for one season and then landed with Washington. He’s spent the last two seasons under Scott Brooks.

He was a scout during his first four years with Denver but has been strictly an assistant coach over the past six seasons. Iske was a member of the Nuggets for 14 years starting in 1999 as an intern. Chad has a lot of experience at the NBA level and would be a good addition to Charlotte’s bench.

With Denver, he was in charge of scouting upcoming opponents and assisted with game plan preparation.

It’s worth noting that Chad served as the Wizards’ head coach during the Las Vegas Summer League last year.

Iske would join Jay Triano, Jay Hernandez, and Ronald Nored on Borrego’s staff. Triano was hired as the lead assistant while Hernandez and Nored have backgrounds in player development which the Hornets are putting an emphasis on going forward.

Charlotte is still in the process of putting their coaching staff together after firing former head coach Steve Clifford on April 13th. They then hired James Borrego in early May. The former San Antonio Spurs’ assistant is slowly making hiring his assistant and it looks like Chad may be the next one to join.

There was also a report that the Hornets were looking to add Sergio Scariolo to their coaching staff but no updates regarding his hiring have been given.

We’ll have to wait and see if Charlotte is successful in their pursuit of Iske. Washington may not want to let him go as he is an integral part of their coaching staff. It will be interesting to see who else James Borrego targets to be on his bench for his upcoming campaign with the Hornets.
