The year 2019 won’t be kind to the Charlotte Hornets, especially not early on. The month of January has 14 games in total, featuring just four home games and two dreaded back-to-backs. The Hornets are, once again, above the league average of 13.3 back-to-backs, with 15 of their own in the 2018-19 season. January includes the team’s pivotal West Coast road trip which will be six games from the 5th to the 14th.

However, though the scheduling certainly isn’t where Charlotte faithful would like, the teams the Hornets take-on in January aren’t exactly top-tier.

Over half of the 14 games are against teams that did not make the playoffs in 2018. Their toughest tests in the month will be the Portland Trail Blazers, the San Antonio Spurs, the Indiana Pacers, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Boston Celtics.

Though 2019 might not get off to a hot start for Charlotte, the month of January will be very important in securing those coveted away game wins. After going only 15-26 on the road last season, the Hornets will need to improve on that record if they want to make the playoffs this year. These games could make all the difference come April.
