The Charlotte Hornets picked up a few great assets this offseason and here we are constructing the five traditional lineup options.

The Charlotte Hornets were able to pick up a few great players, including the Australian megastar LaMelo Ball and All-Star Gordon Hayward. After having a great draft day haul, the Hornets will look to create a competitive lineup with a very talented roster.

Traditionally a team will put together a lineup of whatever players play the best, especially with each other. However, there are about five lineup options that teams can rotate through depending on their opponent or opposing players.

So let’s briefly look at the traditional lineup options and their builds.

The first lineup is the starting five with the most skill. The best lineup includes the most well-rounded players who are extremely talented. This is what organizations usually run with at the tip.

The next lineup is the Defensive lineup, which teams will use to fight off opposing offenses. These lineups usually come in to stop last-second shots or plays. These teams consist of the best defensive guards and best paint protectors on the roster.

The Small Ball lineup is where teams will take advantage of another “big” lineup. The lineup can stretch the floor and use the versatility of the small players to blow by opposing bigs and use their speed to create shots. This particular lineup was used by the Houston Rockets last season without a single Center in the starting rotation, this lineup stretched the floor, where the team even led the league in three-point attempts with over 45 three’s attempted per game.

The Big Man lineup is an incredibly good lineup for securing rebounding. The lineup is very good for getting boards and can dominate opposing teams in the paint. The lineup includes tall players with strength who can get the ball off the glass. The team includes lengthy guards and long forwards, usually, this lineup can pair well with the Defensive lineup.

The final lineup is the shooting lineup. This team includes a roster that gives rosters the chance to stretch the floor. These lineups shoot great from behind the arch and can make weak perimeter defenses pay. This lineup is used really well especially for the Golden State Warriors, where they have great perimeter shooters that shoot efficiently.
