The Charlotte Hornets need to look to select a player in the upcoming draft that can make an immediate impact. The Hornets have done well as of late with their picks, so fans will be hoping this streak continues.

A position the Hornets will need to address in the draft is center. Cody Zeller and Bismack Biyombo are set to become unrestricted free agents after this season, meaning the Hornets will need more depth if these players aren’t re-signed.

More from Draft

If the Hornets look to draft a center in the first round, then Day’Ron Sharpe would be a great pickup. The North Carolina native and current Tar Heel would be a great addition.

Sharpe hasn’t seen a lot of playing time this season, as he’s mainly been a bench player. In 28 games, Sharpe has averaged 9.7 points and 7.7 rebounds. He’s also started in four of those games, averaging 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

Sharpe stands at 6’11 and weighs 265 lbs. He has great size, and he’s a bruiser for the paint. Sharpe can use his size to be an effective defender and rebound. His size also makes him a dangerous scorer in transition.

The Hornets love the pick-and-roll game, Sharpe would be an excellent option to play with LaMelo Ball. Sharpe’s size allows him to set screens at an effective rate and finish well around the rim.

The Hornets give up a lot of three-pointers, Sharpe’s quickness as a big allows him to get near the perimeter quickly to perform an effective closeout on shooters. His agility as a big could is one of his most underrated qualities.

Sharpe needs to work on his outside shot and free throws. He’s not known as a perimeter shooter, and he’s only shot 50% from the charity stripe.

Since the Hornets have been hanging around the 7th spot in the Eastern Conference, they could end up with a late lottery pick or outside of the lottery. If that’s the case, Charlotte would be able to target Sharpe, who’s projected to go midway through the draft.
