The Charlotte Hornets' sticky situation concerning Mark Williams is nowhere near being resolved. The team and its supposed cornerstone have no choice but to patch things up unless the Hornets decide to waive him, which is naturally not going to happen. Perhaps the worst-case scenario is to shut Williams down, which might not paint either party in a good light.
Some fans are probably hoping that there is a future for the promising center in Charlotte. However, that might be a pipe dream now. The likely outcome of the saga is that the Hornets will trade Williams again in the summer. They might have to temper their expectations regarding the return they could get, as his value has possibly dipped.
As for Williams, the best he can do is use the Los Angeles Lakers curveball as motivation to prove his worth and give other organizations enough reason to pursue him.
Unfortunately for the Hive, there might not be a suitor as desperate as the Lakers in the offseason. Hopefully, teams in need of a center, such as the squads below, will be willing to engage in talks with Charlotte.
Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are impressively deep at every position, although there's an argument that the weakest is the center spot. While Kristaps Porzingis is an All-Star caliber player, he is often injured. Meanwhile, elder statesman Al Horford will be turning 39 in the summer. So, the reigning champs should consider taking a risk on Williams, more so if they fail to defend their crown this season.
Boston currently has few weaknesses, but it can use some help in the offensive rebounding department, as it ranks just 20th in the league.
Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets do not appear to be a fitting trade destination for Williams, given that they already have Nic Claxton and Day'Ron Sharpe. However, with the rumors that they could go star-hunting this coming summer, they should look to bolster their big-man depth with a cheap but talented center.
With the Nets' treasure trove of draft assets, they can easily dangle at least one for Williams.
Chicago Bulls
The Chicago Bulls have been the subject of criticism this past trade deadline after failing to secure a first-round pick for Zach LaVine. Apparently, that has been a recurring theme for the franchise, as they also netted zero first-rounders for DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso in previous trades.
With the 34-year-old Nikola Vucevic likely gone this summer, the Bulls should look at pursuing what would be the equivalent of a first-round selection in Williams.
Golden State Warriors
One of the most common points raised when talking about the Golden State Warriors is their constant need to add reinforcement at the five. Williams would look like a solid fit alongside the Warriors' core.
The trade-deadline deal for Jimmy Butler may have made Jonathan Kuminga, who has been mentioned as a dream target for the Hornets, a bit more expendable. So, a Williams-Kuminga swap could be beneficial for Charlotte and Golden State.
Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors will likely try to contend in the 2025-26 campaign after landing Brandon Ingram earlier this month. However, they need an anchor for their Big 3 of Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and Ingram. Williams could be just what the doctor ordered for the Raptors.
Jakob Poeltl has done a great job of manning the pivot for Toronto in this campaign, although the team is likely better off bringing him off the bench. Williams would give the Raptors a rebounding, rim-running machine with the potential to be the defensive backline they need for their wings and forwards.
