Despite being in their 35th season in the NBA, the Charlotte Hornets have yet to field a superstar on the hardwood floor. That could change in the near future if any of LaMelo Ball or Brandon Miller (hopefully both) reaches his full potential.
Interestingly, the Hornets drafted a player in 1999 whose combination of talent, physique, athleticism, and charisma could have made him a superstar. When healthy and locked, Baron Davis was a two-way beast and a matchup nightmare. However, injuries and lack of focus or motivation held the retired point guard back.
Davis has a plan for Charlotte to get its superstar, though, and it involves a guy who grew up in the Queen City — Stephen Curry.
Davis suggests Curry could retire with the Hornets
In an interview with DJ Siddiqi, the two-time All-Star discussed the incredible Team USA stints of Curry and LeBron James, which ignited talks of the former rivals joining forces in the NBA. He didn't hesitate to predict that no such team-up would take place in the league.
On the other hand, Davis shared how he hopes Curry would conclude his career. He said, "Steph can play forever with the way he's shooting the ball. Would love to see him finish his career with the Warriors. If not, probably the Charlotte Hornets."
This wouldn't be the first time the possibility of the two-time MVP making his way to the Hornets has been raised. In the 2024 offseason, his removal of "Guard for the Warriors" from his Instagram bio had folks questioning his plans about staying long-term with Golden State. The social media move sparked talks of Curry bringing his talents to his hometown, which he once admitted was the only destination he would consider if he ever opted to leave the Dubs.
Chances are the 10-time All-Star has no plans of departing from the Warriors, especially since he has a lucrative contract with the franchise that will expire in 2027. By then, he will be 39, and his run as one of the best players in the league would likely be over.
However, as Davis mentioned, Curry's game is timeless. Even at an advanced age, arguably the greatest shooter of all time would likely be the perfect complementary piece to Ball and Miller. Some fans might be concerned about how many points a lineup headlined by the hypothetical trio would bleed. But it's worth noting that both youngsters have affirmed their commitment to defense. So, the perimeter defense wouldn't be that horrible and could even thrive.
Still, while it's satisfying to picture Curry wearing a Hornets uniform and making it rain in Charlotte, fans should just leave it to the imagination.
