Bold warning from Mark Williams puts him in Hornets fans' crosshairs

The Phoenix Suns might soon regret trading for Mark Williams, although the former Charlotte Hornets big man has other plans. In his first appearance in a Suns uniform for the team's media day, he sent a snarky message to the Hornets, saying that he plans on "making them regret" their decision to trade him twice.

As reported by Shane Young of Forbes Sports, Williams expressed excitement to be in a place where he is wanted. Also, he acknowledged knowing that it was only a matter of time until Charlotte sent him packing again after it tried to ship him to the Los Angeles Lakers last season, only to see the deal rescinded. The decisions seem to have left a bad taste in his mouth.

The thing is, the Hornets organization and its fans recognized Williams's exceptional talent whenever he is on the floor. Unfortunately, he has been on the sidelines more times than he has been available, appearing in just 106 out of a possible 246 games in his first three years in the league.

Given his injury history, it's not that hard to comprehend why Charlotte was not too keen on keeping him on the roster for the long haul.

Could the franchise indeed be remorseful of its choice in the future? Perhaps, especially because of its lack of depth at the center position, and if Williams manages to overcome his health issues. On the other hand, banking on the former first-round pick becoming a fixture on the floor is too big a risk, and obviously, the Hornets were not willing to take it.

Mark Williams' revenge games could be interesting for the Hive

After Williams made his thoughts about Charlotte crystal clear, it's safe to say that the next bouts between his former and current employers could be must-watch TV.

It's going to take a while before the contests take place, though, as the first matchup between the Hornets and Suns is scheduled on March 8, a Sunday. Charlotte will visit the PHX Arena that day. The rematch is slated on April 2, and that evening will see Williams take the court at Spectrum Center without wearing the purple and teal uniform.

The crowd during the second battle of the regular-season series will probably be eager to watch Williams try to make the Hornets rue giving up on him once in February and one more time during the offseason.

He will just have to make sure that he is healthy enough to put his money where his mouth is. Otherwise, it is the Suns who will regret the trade and not Charlotte.
