The Charlotte Hornets dropped a hard-fought road battle to the Boston Celtics, 113-102, but the night wasn’t without a silver lining. After the game, Jaylen Brown offered a compliment that should resonate with every Hornets fan: Charlotte reminds him of a young Celtics team.

This matchup carried real playoff intensity with multiple lead changes, momentum swings, and stretches where both teams looked capable of taking control. Ultimately, Boston’s superior shooting and rebounding proved to be the difference and the Hornets lost it in the fourth quarter.

The Hornets definitely could’ve used Coby White, who was downgraded to out with a left groin injury. They were able to take the Celtics down earlier in the season, but things have changed. The loss bumps Charlotte down to the 9‑seed, a reminder of how tight the playoffs race are during this brutal closing stretch of the season.

Jaylen Brown gives praise

In his postgame interview, Brown was asked about a potential playoff meeting with the Hornets and what stands out about the matchup. His response was telling:

“This team kind of reminds me of us when we were younger. Young group, shoot the ball well, got a lot of different guys who can beat you, and have fearlessness. So they came out ready to play. Today was like a playoff-like game and we found a way to win.”

For Charlotte fans, that’s the kind of praise that should inspire confidence. Being compared to a championship-caliber team, especially by someone who’s battled deep into the postseason and has a ring, signals that the Hornets’ young core is on the right trajectory. It also tracks with the influence of head coach Charles Lee, who spent a season on Boston’s staff during their title run.

The Hornets’ roster backs up Brown’s point. LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Kon Knueppel have all shown the ability to take over a game at a moment’s notice. Even Miles Bridges continues to be a reliable 20‑point threat who can exploit mismatches on any given night. This team has dangerous weapons all around.

What’s next in the Eastern Conference?

This game was as close to a must‑win as it gets for Charlotte’s hopes of climbing into the top six. Now 1.5 games back with only two left, the 6‑seed is nearly out of reach. While not mathematically eliminated, the Hornets’ focus should shift toward securing the 7 or 8‑seed, which offer a safety net in the Play‑In Tournament.

There’s even an argument that the 8‑seed presents a more favorable first‑round matchup. But regardless of where they land, simply making the playoffs would be a monumental achievement. It would snap the NBA’s longest active playoff drought at nine seasons and give this young group invaluable postseason experience. And once you’re in, anything can happen. A Cinderella run wouldn’t be unheard of, especially with a team that can get hot at any moment.

It’s an exciting time to be a Hornets fan. National voices and players like Jaylen Brown are taking notice. Charlotte has already exceeded expectations this season, and a playoff berth would be the perfect finishing touch.
