Charles Lee has never been shy about delivering insightful, but straightforward messages to both his team and the fanbase. After Saturday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs, he offered another one with a clear takeaway: the Hornets cannot afford to get complacent at Spectrum Center on the upcoming seven-game homestand.

A quick look at Charlotte’s record makes his point even louder. The Hornets have won six more games on the road than they have at home, a complete reversal of what you’d expect from most NBA teams. Home court hasn’t been an advantage — it’s been a challenge.

During his postgame interview, Lee broke down the obstacles ahead and what the Hornets must do to flip the script during this extended stretch in Charlotte:

“We've actually played really well on the road, and our record might say differently at home. Our fans are amazing. We will feed off of that, but we also have to make sure that we bring a level of focus and readiness on this homestand. "We play a lot of really good competition and sometimes you can be too comfortable being home for that many days. The road at times makes you uncomfortable, makes you hungry, and we have to have that same hunger at home.”

Lee acknowledged the team’s success on the road, but he also warned that playing so many consecutive games at home can swing the mentality of a team into feeling a little too comfortable. There have been plenty of statement wins on the road, but turning their home floor into a true advantage is the next step.

He also gave a salute to the fans. Hornets fans have been doing their part to keep the energy high, packing Spectrum Center with multiple sellouts this season.

Tough road ahead

The hope was for Charlotte to continue their road dominance on the west coast trip and take at least three of the four games. They went 2-2, and still sit firmly at the No. 10 seed, just barely squeezing into a play-in berth.

The Hornets are simply going to have to play better if they want any real shot at hosting a play‑in game. But with LaMelo Ball constantly battling foul trouble and Brandon Miller shooting just 14 percent from the field on Saturday, it does feel like some of the mid-season optimism is starting to slip away as the pressure mounts.

Charlotte opens their homestand on March 17 against the Miami Heat, who come in eyeing a season sweep after taking all three previous matchups. The Hornets then face an Orlando Magic team riding a seven‑game winning streak, making this stretch one of their toughest tests of the season.

Winning these two games could be the turning point in the standings that catapults the Hornets to a higher seed, setting the stage for a stretch run that finally matches the ambition they’ve been hinting at all year. If there was a time to catch fire again, it’s now before the window starts to close.
