Last season, the Charlotte Hornets bid farewell to an era after sending Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat in exchange for a 2027 lottery-protected first-round pick and a few weeks of Kyle Lowry. It was an amicable pairing between Rozier and the team, although the guard did incite some clapback from some Hornets fans following his quip about the "losing culture" in Charlotte.

A year later, it has become clear that Buzz City got the better of the trade because Rozier has played inconsistently for the Heat, and that draft pick could end up with a much higher value than initially thought.

Still, that hasn't stopped the Ohio native from missing his former squad, apparently saying as much in his comment on what looks like an Instagram post dedicated to one of his best games suiting up for the Hornets.

Terry Rozier is under investigation due to a betting scandal

Perhaps the question is if Queen City misses Rozier back. That might be tricky to answer nowadays because of the scandal the veteran has found himself in.

According to the Wall Street Journal (subscription required), "Scary Terry" is the subject of a probe by federal prosecutors due to his possible involvement in an illegal gambling operation that has supposedly rigged various sports events. Per the report, he is being investigated to determine whether he manipulated his performance in order not to meet certain statistical outcomes, resulting in massive payouts for bets that wagered on his unders.

It's worth noting that Rozier's case is connected to that of Jontay Porter, the controversial forward who was banned for life by the NBA last year after he admitted to controlling prop bets in violation of league rules.

Of course, Rozier might end up being absolved of any wrongdoing, as the unusual betting patterns surrounding his play when he was still with the Hornets could have been merely coincidental. The NBA, through spokesperson Mike Bass, has already stated that its own investigation into the Heat guard two years ago established that he didn't violate any league policy.

Only time will tell how the investigation concludes. It doesn't appear Rozier is capable of shaving points or doing something similar that will compromise the integrity of the sport. What's more likely is that he would rather still be playing for Charlotte, especially considering how his Miami stint has turned out so far. And truth be told, the Hornets also need someone like the 30-year-old vet to address their offensive deficiencies this season.
