The Charlotte Hornets may be tough to watch take to the court at times. However, their play-by-play announcer, Eric Collins, has sometimes singlehandedly made their games entertaining through his energetic calls and signature catchphrases. He should be proud of himself for having fans in the faces of the league, LeBron James and Stephen Curry.
Curry recently made an appearance on James's podcast, "Mind the Game," where the Golden State Warriors mainstay discussed the prospect of finally sharing the floor with his brother, Seth. When co-host Steve Nash suggested that the Curry patriarch, Dell, should be on the broadcasting team, James chimed in by saying that Collins has to join, too.
Clearly, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar has heard the broadcasting duo of Collins and Dell Curry call games, as he described the former as "hilarious" and "great." Stephen Curry then recalled some of Collins's famous soundbites, including "How do you do?" and "Hum diddly dee!"
Eric Collins has been getting the recognition
It is certainly an interesting development that the Ohio-born media personality has become even more esteemed around the league. Aside from the shout-out from James and Stephen Curry, Collins has been tabbed this year to be a play-by-play commentator for "NBA on Prime," where he is slated to work alongside the likes of Ian Eagle, Kevin Harlan, and Michael Grady.
But even with the new assignment, he still has a soft spot for the Hornets, for whom his most enthusiastic reactions are probably still reserved. Collins even revealed that it was "super important" to him to continue to be a part of the broadcasting team for Charlotte's matches. That is certainly good news, as he may be a key reason some Hornets fans have remained willing to support the squad despite the many years of losing.
Hopefully, though, the Hornets can start to turn things around in the near future. Their outlook for this season does not look too promising, especially because they have struggled defensively, and the offense has seemingly plateaued early. Injuries have also continued to be a thorn in Charlotte's side.
Perhaps in a few years, the club can finally make it back to the playoffs and end the drought that began in 2017. The Hornets also owe it to the fans to put forth a laudable product on the court. In addition, a lot of people are likely looking forward to hearing Collins' voice during the playoffs. If he can express a high level of passion even for the simplest of plays, imagine how animated he would be when Charlotte is competing in high-stakes games.
