The Charlotte Hornets are set to host their fifth pre-draft workout as they will scout another six prospects prior to June 22nd.

The Charlotte Hornets have announced that their fifth pre-draft workout will take place on June 14th and involve six prospects. Melo Trimble, Jamel Artis, Sidy Djitte, Youssoufa Fall, Elijah Wilson and Xavier Rathan-Mayes were among the players named. What this group lacks in first round talent, it makes up for in interesting free agent options after the draft.

While none of these prospects are expected to be drafted in the 2017 NBA Draft, a few could make some noise during summer league. The Hornets are doing their due diligence when it comes to scouting as many prospects as possible.

Melo Trimble is the most recognizable name and highest rated player (#84 on DraftExpress) but even he is projected to go undrafted this year. Although, he could very well sneak into the later stages of the second round and possibly be an intriguing option for Charlotte at No. 41 or as an undrafted free agent. After averaging 17.2 points at Maryland during his junior year, the point guard chose to forgo his senior season.

As for Jamel Artis, he is ranked #92 in DE’s top-100 prospects. The small forward averaged 18.2 points per game during his senior year at PITT. Here’s a closer look at the Baltimore native.

Sidy Djitte (Clemson) is the last prospect of the group that’s ranked in the top-100 as he comes in at #96. The 6’10 big man averaged 6.5 points and 7.7 rebounds his senior season. Despite being born in Senegal, he went to high school in North Carolina.

Youssoufa Fall is the sixth best international prospect but will likely go undrafted even though he measures in at a towering 7’4″ with a 7’6″ wingspan. He is from Senegal but played this past season with the Poitiers Basket of Pro B which is the second division in France.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes is a combo guard out of Florido State who put up 10.6 points per game and 4.8 assists per game his junior year. Although he is ranked as the ACC’s 47th overall prospect, he is not among the top-100 overall.

Elijah Wilson (Coastal Carolina University) is a 6’4 guard who averaged 12.9 points per game. The Wilmington, NC native is a local prospect and you can read more a little more about him, here.

The best bet for each of these prospects is to impress the Charlotte Hornets enough to earn a summer league contract. Then they will have another chance to potentially make the training camp roster if they play well enough. The fact that the team is bringing them in says that they at least think each of these players shows a bit of promise.
